For this box I revisit my whimsical garden and playful elves and their friends. I like to paint theses scenes when I don’t want to work with photos, patterns, or even sketches. These are done freehand which is a nice break and a lot of fun. I like to put in made plants and flowers, and whatever little critters I think of at the time, and of course, the little elvish creatures.
Box is a 4″ x 6″ oval, 1 3/4″ high.
The painting process involves painting a first layer, then firing in the kiln to about 1450 degrees. The paint is applied in thin layers so it doesn’t pop off after firing. The process is repeated. Multiple layers of paint allow for a richness as the paints are transparent.
